As we edge into winter and Sunday league season is well underway. You're a nippy winger who somehow has managed to be tackled by the mud when the ball has decided to stop rolling, or you could be a centre half with your entire right side caked in mud after some delicious slide tackles. Well back in the 60's and 70's you weren't alone!

Sit back and take a look at some of the muddiest games throughout English football history.

1975 at the 'Baseball Ground' Derby's old ground which was initially created to be a 'baseball stadium' before Derby county called it home. What better visitors for a mud packed game than the northern powerhouse of Stoke City.

This had everything you can think of and more, tackles flying in, players going on lung busting runs and even back heels to set up goals! A wonderful mud soaked header from Stoke seals the game for the visitors. I wish highlights were like this on Match Of The Day each week.

Not a blade of grass in sight in Manchester when Londoners West Ham came to town. A team with Frank Lampard senior, world cup hero's Geoff Hurst and Bobby Moore and even Jimmy Greaves making his West Ham debut with a tidy brace,

Hursts first goal diving header caked in mud is everything these games should be sbout!

Cup final replay where Chelsea and Leeds beat the ever loving snot out of each other in a fiery encounter. Add some Mud to the occasion and there's all the slide tackles you could shake a stick at. What would you expect with a team captained by Ron Harris up against Billy Bremner, Jack Charlton and Andy Gray.
